Belated HaPpY BiRtHdAy!

I have to admit that even with my newly harnessed 'powers' of reluctantly accepting winter as winter, am finding this dreary transition over to early spring a rather long and drawn out affair.  We seem to drift beneath lingering mediocre grey skies and incessant rain or bitter winds. And yes I know it is the bleak end of the year weatherly speaking - however a blue sky no matter how brittle cold the air is - is more cheerful than the 'nothing' which seems to idle from horizon to horizon.

A couple of weekends ago we celebrated my Eldest son's birthday - and yes it rained - however we swarmed around the diningroom table and beneath strings of fairy lights and accompanied by candles, ate good food, played board games, laughed and talked and were entertained bossed around by cats. We also tickled goats and played in the garden during a brief but most welcome stay in the weather - now that is what I call a good weekend!

Post script: am I the only one who wants to blog but when I start the words feel trite or the stories not worth sharing? I have over the last couple of weeks, opened the page, thought about what to say (which sounds excellent in my head by the way) only to press delete.

  1. I love the fairy lights..not just making the meal celebratory...we still need more light!

I have had to blog of late to keep myself going...I should be writing in my diary, but at least I can print off my blogposts and add them....
Now it is just down to very slow recovery for Pirate...it drags for both of us, and drains the inspiration.
Reading other bloggers' writings helps spark creativity..

  3. I agree with the need for more light, even during the day some days. There is creativity in his recovery even if it is difficult to see easily. Hang in on there and plan for better days when the sun shines that little warmer, he can potter as he used to and you can get busy with clay again - looking forward to reading that!

  4. I know what you mean about the grey and rain. We were so lucky to get some spring sunshine last week whilst we were in Wales. It has also given me something to blog about for a few weeks as I too sometimes wonder whether what I am writing is of any interest to anyone whatsoever πŸ™ˆ. I have a post pending about starting my decluttering goal but am not sure how interesting my kitchen cupboards will be … but I think publishing it will help me to feel accountable and keep going with the decluttering πŸ˜€. 1. I agree about the accountability - also I know that it is a way of diarising memories for family and to reminisce in the future - So Carol - get that kitchen cupboard sorted!!😁

  5. Any day which includes tickling goats is going to be a good one, birthday or not. Do you sometimes think that it is Mum who should celebrate the birthday - after all, it was you doing all the work

  6. Oh sorry, ‘publish’ happened rather sooner than I intended on that last line . . . thank goodness I wasn’t being scurrilous :-). I understand completely what you say about not blogging because you don’t think your stories are worth sharing. Given my last published post was so long ago I can barely remember it . . . πŸ₯² πŸ₯².

YOUR stories, however, are always worth reading, xxx

I know you'll understand this though - I found writing harder once there was no Moss πŸΎπŸΎπŸ’šπŸ’š

    2. Completely understand and agree - without Daisy there seemed very little point in continuing the Bag End blog. πŸΎπŸ’šπŸ˜’

  7. What a beautiful dining room...so cosy. I really agree with the blog posts not flowing...life is just so full on at the moment and the distinct lack of sunshine has really affected my energy levels. x

    1. The diningroom is my Eldest's - it is such a lovely space, the lights and the candles made for such a special celebratory feeling. I agree that the lack of sunlight has certainly made for rather lacklustre levels x

  8. From the other side of the world, here's a wish for some moderation for us all - if only you could have some of our huge unrelenting blue sky, and may we please have some moisture - but just gentle precipitation please, no floods required. The consequence of our extremes is the same - have to shelter indoors, watch precious plants frizzle, and long for some colour; even the autumn bulbs are hiding. Can't walk the dog, neither his paws nor his heart would withstand overheating. Sigh. But this too will pass, the equinox is only a week away, and the clocks go back shortly after that. Which of us will be the swing, the roundabout? Please keep writing, even without a Moss or a Daisy the stories of your lives lift us out of our own for a brief while.

    1. I would love some of your sunshine, the endless blue sky - growing up in Africa, it is what I am used to, the heat, the dust, the flies (oh wait - there were some downsides!) thank you for your kind words - they really touched me xx

    1. Goat tickling is to be recommended as a birthday treat! I love hand feeding them too - they are so gentle (well this lot were) as they licked your hands clean of all treats xx

  10. Happy belated Birthday to your big lad! I love the cats and the goats and it sounded like you had an absolute blast despite the weather (that's why I've vowed to spend every birthday I have left in the sun if I can!)
I always feel the same after a blog break! xxx

    1. Yes, despite the weather it was a lovely weekend - I do miss the sunshine, the wall to wall blue of a decent summer sky - but when it happens here in the grey north - it is so precious!

  13. As I've had technical difficulties for the last six months or so, I've been very absent with posting & had trouble getting your blog up at all most of the time, so here I am on new computer which is doing my head in. Love the goats...........and loved reading the rest of your news after such a long time away. Keep blogging & I'll somehow try and get this on my side bar. Take care & hugs.
