Ey-up

Well, that was January done and dusted. Strangely enough, as 'January' as January was, it did not drag anything like previous years - not sure why but am very grateful.

I also managed to write 22 posts, only one less than the whole of 2024 - that was something which gently pleased me too.  We've just returned from a weekend away where we escaped to the Dales for a couple of nights. I feel refreshed and ready to tackle February.

After work on Friday, we trundled up in my car, following roads we have used and loved for years, through towns and villages, dales and fields which we have walked through with small boys, with dogs, with just each other.

We arrived in the dark, having detoured through the nearest little town whilst we looked for the fish and chip shop we knew was tucked away in a twisty narrow back street.

Once we'd tracked it down, we bought a 'chip butty' (roll/barm/bap/bread bun) for me and fish and chips for Himself. A few minutes later we had arrived at our home for the weekend, opened up, put on the kettle and were eating steaming hot freshly cooked chips smothered in salt and vinegar.

I can't think of a better way to start a weekend than by licking salty fingers and drinking tea from a 'made in Yorkshire' mug.

    1. I agree, those little end of week getaways are actually quite restorative ☺️

  2. 22 posts, gosh, huge well done 👏

January contained much hibernation here which was planned and then thoroughly enforced by catching a horrible, horrible cold and I had no choice. TBH, it has been rather relaxing.

I am glad your weekend refreshed you and set you up for the new month.

    1. thank you sweet lady! Sorry you were taken by the dreaded lurgy - however on the plus side, rather feeling laid up during January when the weather can be bad natured to say the very least, than in May onwards when there is potential for glorious days xx

  3. What a great start to February. I slowed down in January and went with the flow of reading and pottering. It made it a lot more enjoyable this year. Arilx

  4. Well done on the blog posts! I'm glad your January was better than usual and that you've had a fabulous escape to lift your spirits.
The last time I had a bag of chips was July 2019, on the way home from Glastonbury. xxx

    1. Thank you! and there is something rather delicious about that salty vinegary flavour on chips, not something we have regularly so when we do - it is an absolute treat!

  6. Loved your January posts; so glad you managed to write them; I know it is not a 5 minute job. Your get-a-way sounds good. I agree that January has almost whizzed by. February will be faster as it has less days..... x
