Gently sharing the love

Edited to add:

apologies if I don't reply to you here or comment on your own blogs - since yesterday afternoon Blogger has refused to let me comment??!! any idea why?

I spent the whole day in the garden yesterday - let that sink in......... (apart from nipping into the house to put the kettle on, make lunch or use the loo but that aside).... 𝕥𝕙𝕖..𝕨𝕙𝕠𝕝𝕖..𝕕𝕒𝕪!

At one point the three of us (Willow, Pan and I) were sitting in the summer house having a break and we were all just a little too warm - hang on a minute - does that mean.... there was sunshine, actual sunshine??

Yes! and it was absolutely blimmin' marvellous.

And there has been a bit of a break through - it is amazing how a good dose of sunlight and being outside can help soothe differences.

I had to hold my breath - long may this gentle progress continue

After years of working at the walled garden where there was an almost indecent need to sow seeds in vast quantities for the coming growing season, this year I really needed to rein in my enthusiasm for filling every available tray or module with potting soil!

Fortunately I do have more than my own garden I supply plants for - both my sons and my brother have new gardens and sharing plants and seedlings is a form of love. Eldest's garden has just reached the point where he is able to start sharing back - splitting herbaceous perennials, passing on self sown seedlings and collected seed heads.

So, while my two supervisors were investigating the back of their eyelids, I made 'seedling rolls'  filling them with summer annuals for my brother's garden. Once made up, they take up so little room that it makes them easier to transport (up to Scotland) and then all he has to do is un-roll them and plant out the seedlings.

Today, I am planning another day out in the garden, I am sure my two side-kicks will be more than happy to play out again. Although I do have to take Willow for her walk first otherwise she natters at me until I get the message!

Yesterday's walk produced a very muddy doggo - which I think we can call a win - means she has played hard and is happy to hang around and chill while I potter with plants.

Hope there is sunshine where you are today☀️

And if you are working in your garden, hope too you see all the new shoots and the promise of this year's plants and flowers beginning to wake up. Certainly here in my shady garden in the north of the country - we are considerably later than others, my anticipation is bordering on desperation!

    1. I like seedling rolls too - they take up so little space compared to the space required if you were to sow the seeds in trays

  2. I don't sow many flower seeds these days, our local pet shop sells strips of small bedding plants at a good price, I will only require a few, I have loads of fleabane daisies which I am growing for daughters garden. I used to give plants to my sister, she never cares for her plants and so many die, so now I'm leaving her to buy plants in hope the cost will make her at least water them when necessary. I do have veg seeds to start soon.

    1. I found that with my Eldest, I'd grow seedlings, divide plants etc for him only to find several weeks later they were dead in their trays or pots. However, since he has started buying and growing his own - he has realised what goes into doing that and now there is a much better survival rate of plants!!

  3. No idea why blogger is playing up. I often have problems then they just seem to randomly resolve themselves. From my googling I found that clearing caches and cookies can help … not that I u destined a bit of what that means lol. Anyway so good to have a bit of sunshine. We have taken a big risk and over seeded our grass. I kind of know it’s too early but it’s got two chances and it may just take longer to germinate. I love the idea of the seed rolls too. I’ve never seen that before. Enjoy the sunshine… it looks like we may get a few days of it before the rain is back x

    1. I do worry that blogger might eventually give up - as it seems to have lost all the original features I rather enjoyed using.
I know what you mean about clearing the caches and cookies - ?????? haha

  4. I am planning to be in the garden today too, but carefully, as my back is complaining a bit! It is such a good feeling to be out there and the sunshine is a bonus.
Progress is certainly being made with cat and dog. I love that photo of Willow - there's trust and happiness in those eyes!
(In my experience, sometimes blogger does its own thing!)
    Best wishes

    1. Hope you got out - carefully - take care of your back! I am out but not gardening today as my hands have taken a hammering the last few days whilst out in the garden so today, dog walk, cups of tea and enjoying the sunshine with Wills and Pan

    1. a great relief, there are moments when it seems that they are almost best buds then Willow gets her very pointy collie face and I just wonder if she'd like to snap. I step in at that point. I will not tolerate a bitey dog.

  6. This sunshine makes a pleasant change. Even if I only got to enjoy it through a window, today. It must have been fantastic to spend a whole day gardening, especially with such delightful company. Xx

  7. Lovely! I too need to plant fewer seeds! The sunshine was great and I did a bit outside but only a bit. You have Pan and Willow for company, I just have lots of birds and sometimes a female pheasant (I call Squeak because she squeaks....) will find me, announce her presence and wait for sunflower hearts.... sometimes Mallard ducks are here and will stay provided I wake around them in a large loop. I think I spotted your 'holey' skirt in this post. Great job, that mend. x

    1. The restraint needed to not sow gazillions of seeds as I normally do was extremely hard - the pain was real haha!

  8. Lovely day, washing flapping on the line, weeding begun in earnest. Some paperwork done up to the patio table, lunch eaten outside too. Quite a lively wind but I’m ready for British Summer Time! Xx
